Genetic-based optimization in fog computing: Current trends and research opportunities

Fog computing is a new computational paradigm that emerged from the need to reduce network usage and latency in Internet of Things (IoT). can be considered as continuum between cloud layer IoT users allows execution applications or storage/processing data infrastructure devices. The heterogeneity wider distribution fog devices are key differences infrastructure. Genetic-based optimization commonly used distributed systems; however, differentiating features require designs, studies, experimentation. growing research field genetic-based resource lack previous analysis this have encouraged us present comprehensive, exhaustive, systematic review most recent works. Resource techniques were examined analyzed, with special emphasis on solutions their characteristics design alternatives. We defined taxonomy scope infrastructures classify 70 papers survey. Subsequently, assessed terms genetic design. Finally, benefits limitations each surveyed work outlined paper. Based these analyses relevant literature, future directions identified. concluded more efforts needed address current challenges management, workflow scheduling, service placement. Additionally, there still room for improved designs deployments parallel hybrid algorithms leverage, adapt to, domains.
